Old Rivalries Renewed for 2019

The saying everything old is new again couldn't be more true for the 2019 North football schedule. After two years in the Suburban Blue sub-district, the Polars return to the more familiar Suburban Grey sub-district. With this change, North will be competing against familiar Metro East Conference teams for the district title.

Suburban Grey Sub-District
Hill-Murray (4a)
Mahtomedi (5a)
North (5a)
Simley (4a)
South St. Paul (4a)
Tartan (4a)

Home/Away Breakdown:

Home: Tartan, DeLaSalle, Hastings, South St. Paul
Away: Hill-Murray, Simley, Mahtomedi, Spring Lake Park

Week 1:  Hill-Murray
North's last win came against Hill-Murray back in 2016. The Polars will be looking to break their losing streak against a team that has experienced similar struggles.

Week 2: Tartan
The crosstown rivalry matchup wasn't much of a game as eventual state-bound Tartan easily handled the Polars. North will be looking to make their first home game worthy of the big crowd this rivalry always draws.

Week 3: Simley
Offensive coordinator Chris Mensen moves up to the head spot as former head coach Rex King resigns.  North's newly found passing game will need to be on target against a team that knows how to score.

Week 4: DeLaSalle
One of their two out of sub-district games North will try to win their homecoming game against a once highly touted program. Down over the last couple years but always possessing great talent it should be a game filled with big plays.

Week 5: Mahtomedi
The premier program in the area, Mahtomedi is driven to bounce back from their section finals lost to Tartan. This game could have implications not just in the sub-district race but section seedings as well.

Week 6: Spring Lake Park
Last year's state bound team struggled to stop North's passing game in the first half of last year's contest before coming away with a victory in the second half. North will have to be more consistent defensively if they want to stop the Panther's vaulted option attack.

Week 7: Hastings
The final out of sub-district game, the Pirates reached section finals against eventual state-runner up St. Thomas Academy. Hastings will have to replace a large, talented senior class from last years squad.

Week 8: South St. Paul
Another storied program known for a strong option attack, the Polars will be renewing this rivalry against their southern namesakes. This game could also have big implications for both teams in their section seedings and possible first round byes in the playoffs.
